Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to the world of polaroid manipulations. I recently acquired an old sx-70 (alpha 1).. can anyone recommend an alternative to flashbars? Or where I can purchase a relatively inexpensive electronic flash (that still works)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wed, May 19, 2004 - 11:12 AMum.. not a recomendation or anything, but I don't use a flash with my sx-70. the shutter stays open as long as it needs to for the proper exposure..
..but if you do find one, let us know! I'm trying to find a flash for my Polaroid Propack.
try ebay? B&H? Garage Sales? Camera Shows?

Re: sx-70
Wed, May 19, 2004 - 1:40 PMI used to have an electronic flash that sat under the camera, had a cable with a flash head that plugged into the flashcube slot. I don't remember a brand name or what it was called, but I do know it exists.
good luck finding one

Re: sx-70
Mon, May 31, 2004 - 11:01 AMI recently acquired one of these flashes. Mine is made by Promatic; the model name is FSX. I believe that Nisin also made one.
There's a lot of good information on accessories for the SX-70 here: www.rwhirled.com/landlist/...m#acc-SX70 -

Re: sx-70 Flash
Thu, January 13, 2005 - 5:46 AMYou can also just pop off a separate flash while the shutter is open. Works best when REAL dark. -

Re: film for SX-70
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 7:35 PMYou can use the 600 film in an SX-70, as I recall there are two tabs that stop the film pack from going in, trim or file them off and it will fit. You'll have to adjust the exposure because the film is faster. Experiment, play around, have fun, post some results. -

Re: film for SX-70
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 7:51 PMOh I know but the fun with the sx-70 was drawing on the emulsion before it set...;o)) -

Re: film for SX-70
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 7:53 PMOh Freestyle Photo still has multi-packs of the sx-70 film until they run out...

Re: film for SX-70
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 8:26 PMYou can still manipulate the 600 film, and if you don't want to guess where the image is going to be you, or want to add to the manipulation, after the emulsion has set it can still be worked if you soften it by heating it. An old hot plate set on low, and/or with some insulation between the surface and the film. Another project to experiment with.... Also, you might still be able to find some of the B/W 600 film to play with.

Re: sx-70
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 7:49 PMThere were flashes made that fit into the flashbar slot and there was an adapter made that fit into the slot and had a PC socket in it. I haven't checked for a long time, but there was a company in CA called Ventura Graphics, if I remember right, that had the adapters and all kinds of other Polaroid stuff, from coverted pack cameras to old, hard to find types of film. Or, you could probably make an adapter out of an old flashbar, just find the right two contacts and attach a PC cord, that was an old project on my lit until I found a pre-made.
